Drunk driver banned for five years
A man was banned from the road for five years yesterday after he was convicted of a fourth drink- driving offence.
Jevon Lowe, 38, was arrested on North Shore Road on February 1 on suspicion of driving while impaired.
He later refused to provide police with a breath sample.
Lowe, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty to the offence earlier this year and returned to Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced yesterday.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo also fined Lowe $3,000.
Cricketer Bryce Daniels also admitted failure to take a breath test and other traffic offences.
The court heard Daniels, 23, from St George’s, was stopped by police about 11pm on May 18 after they clocked his bike at 60 km/h on North Shore Road.
He told police his name was “Reese Daniels” and gave a 1997 date of birth.
Prosecutors said Daniels smelled of alcohol and began to roll his motorcycle backwards as he spoke to officers. He tried to ride away but police stopped him and handcuffed him.
Daniels refused to give police a breath sample. He told officers: “I know I’m not going to pass if I take it.”
Daniels also admitted speeding, giving false information and not having a valid licence.
He said he did not try to ride away and claimed the officers misunderstood him when he gave his name and birth date.
Mr Tokunbo fined Daniels $1,550 and banned him for a year.
