Speeding driver was over the limit
A driver caught speeding at 98km/h was almost twice the legal drink-driving limit.
Mical Trott, 29, of Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to providing a sample of breath above the legal limit and speeding at Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The court heard that Trott’s car was pulled over by police after it was recorded overtaking several vehicles along North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.
His speed was clocked at close to 100km/h. The legal limit is 35km/h.
Trott told police: “I heard my brother is in trouble at Harrington Sound Club.”
He was ordered out of the car and officers smelled alcohol on his breath.
Trott told the officer that he had drank three beers.
A later breath test showed 150 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — nearly twice the legal limit.
The incident happened on August 18.
Trott apologised to the court for his actions.
He added: “I was in a predicament at the time.”
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Trott $1,200 and banned him from the roads for 18 months for the drink driving offence.
He was also fined $500 for speeding.
