Lewes cup run ends at Bath City
Jonté Smith made his 100th appearance for Lewes as a second-half substitute during his team’s 3-0 defeat away to Bath City in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Despite an impressive run of scoring form lately, the Bermuda forward was dropped to the bench as the suspensions of James Hammond, Leon Redwood and Nico Coton, coupled with Thomas Day being cup-tied, forced Lewes coach Darren Freeman to reshuffle his squad.
Bath led 1-0 at the half through a goal from Ryan Brunt before second-half tallies from Adam Mann and Tom Smith dashed the visiting side’s Cup dream.
“Disappointing result,” Smith, who came on in the 62nd minute, said on Twitter. “But we regroup and go again.”
Also in Britain on Saturday, Nahki Wells put in a good shift for Queens Park Rangers, who came from behind to earn a 1-1 home draw with Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the Sky Bet Championship at Loftus Road.
The Bermuda striker struck the crossbar and set up Geoff Cameron’s second-half strike that cancelled out Jack Marriott’s 24th-minute goal to earn the home side a share of the spoils.
Reggie Lambe and Cambridge United are firmly established in the bottom two of League Two after a 2-0 defeat away to Crawley Town.
Lambe, who played the full match in central midfield, was booked in a first half in which Cambridge dominated for long spells. They were stung by two goals in six second-half minutes from Luke Gambin and Oliver Palmer.
Elsewhere in Europe, Willie Clemons, the Boden forward, scored and had two assists in his team’s 5-2 win away to Taftea on Saturday.
“Happy to be back among the goals and assists,” Clemons, who opened the scoring with a clinical strike in the 27th minute, tweeted.
Boden, who have won their past six league games, trail leaders Hudiksvall by a point in Swedish football’s second tier with the season drawing to a close.
“Another crucial three points away from home,” Clemons added. “Two games to go, one point off top spot, squeaky bum time.”
Danté Leverock’s Narva Trans recorded a 1-0 win away to bottom side Vaprus in the Estonia Premier Division, with midfielder Dmitry Proshin scoring the game’s only goal.
Djair Parfitt-Williams’s Rudar Velenje played to a goalless draw away to Krsko Posavje in the Slovenian Premier Division on Friday.
